Greatest news ever: American Music Club are playing their first show in nine years next month. Anyone who knows me knows that I am an AMC nut. They disappeared too suddenly for me. I spent the majority of 1991 through 1994 at their shows in San Francisco. I was so inebriated at many of them that the live AMC experience remains a hazy fog, for the most part, though isolated moments remain clear: Eitzel playing Last Harbor solo in the middle of a set; Pearl Jam members joining the band to their extreme bemusement for a drunken run through Highway to Hell; blistering loud drums and the most beautiful sounds to ever resound inside the horrible brick walls of Slim's.
Best not to get too many hopes up but even the Vudi-less reunion in 1998 was mesmerising. Of the songs listed only "Home" is familiar from Eitzel's sets of the past year and it's ripe for AMC arrangement. Would that Bruce Kaphan would agree to come back for this but I expect not; with him not there, expect a louder and less professional set.
